寧采臣（張國榮 飾）與燕赤霞（午馬 飾）安葬好小倩的骨灰后，分道揚鑣。寧采臣回到世間，正是奸臣當?shù)?，朝政混亂，民生困苦的時代。寧偶入一家黑店，險被殘殺之際又被捕快誤抓入獄，遇到名士諸葛臥龍（谷峰 飾），得其相救。逃出獄后路經(jīng)一所荒寺，被年青鬼馬道士知秋一葉（張學友 飾）纏上，誤會不斷。山莊中陰森恐布，隱藏著一只巨尸，然巨尸未現(xiàn)，卻出現(xiàn)一伙白衣鬼魂。寧偶摘掉其中一女子面具，發(fā)現(xiàn)其竟與昔日戀人小倩（王祖賢 飾）一模一樣……
